Default Working with Turquoise

Anyone have any tips on working transparent turquoise colors? I try working it high in the flame but the silver in it still comes to the surface leaving little pits in my beads.

Use a slightly reducing flame helps too.

Try not going in and out of the flame so much. Also longer working times really take a toll on it. If you get a spot that pits try dabbing on a spot more of turquoise.

It's annoying isn't it?

Is it pitting from boiling? I've had this happen before. If so, try to move a bit further out in the flame. I had a black once that seemed to boil and pit no matter what I did. Varies batch to batch, I guess, because I'd never had problems with black until then.

It's easy to not notice that you're moving your bead closer to the flame. Try to remind yourself to keep checking... in time, if that's the issue, you will improve and won't have to think about moving the bead back out into the proper distance in the flame.

Just my thoughts...

For me it tends to happen when I work like Jaci said, in and out of the flame a lot. I'm thinking by 'transparent turquoise' she means like the aquas? That happens a lot with those, yes you have to work them cool, but also it happens to me like said. I just made a bead, aqua base, pressed it and removed chill marks, added some clear bubbles, back in the flame to melt them in a bit, that's when it happened.
So almost like EDP, you have that nice bead, if you put it back in the flame > devit lol.

I try to encase them as soon as possible if I can, if I know I will be working on the bead for awhile. The bubbles drive me nuts. Transparent cobalt is another one that is tricky...was it graphite it doesn't like? Looks like devit or pitting as well, just where the marver hits. I don't know if that would affect the other blues at all.
