Default Classes at craft guild of dallas for 2010

Hey Everyone….lots of great teachers coming to the Guild, so check them out and sign up so you won’t lose your spot. 

Jan 8, 9 & 10th – Judy Carlson and all her fun fishes, beachie things and sea creatures. Plus she’s going to do advanced faces, fins, etc. If you’re interested in this class, please sign up soon so we’ll know if we have enough people for the class to make.

March 5, 6 & 7th – Margaret Zinser - Shaping, Encasing, and a little Color
This workshop is geared toward the intermediate beadmaker, specifically addressing ways to improve their shaping and encasing skills to create elegantly shaped, technically superior beads. Starting with fundamental shapes and emphasizing safety, correct posture, and strong technique, Margaret guides students through a logical progression of “classic” bead shapes. The second day of the class includes instruction on different strategies for encasing focal beads, as well as how to deliberately distort base color with clear glass. With each new shape, Margaret will teach a different application for color. Color topics will include: the use of frits; silver leaf, foil, and wire; crushed goldstone; enamels; “neato” reactive colors in the Effetre pallete; tricks for developing color in Reichenbach-108 (Raku/ Iris Orange), and other silver-rich colors.
NEXT STEPS: This class is for the intermediate beadmaker wanting to take their skills in shaping, structure, and texture in glass a little further. We’ll cover sculpting beads with razor blades, a few off-mandrel additions/applications for mandrel beads, and a pendant with a bead bail. As always, I’ll be happy to address individual roadblocks in technique with students. Bring your questions on shape, color, form, and texture!

April 30, May 1 & 2 – Brad Pearson – mostly known for his use of dots and masking.
Beyond the Basic Bead:
Ever wanted to break out of the wound bead on a mandrel. Would you like to explore glass beyond the simple round bead. Then this is the class for you. This class is designed to push the students to a new level of beadmaking. We will cover dots, masking patterns, heat control, two-part bead construction, and working off- mandrel with stainless steel punties. New lessons are always evolving as I learn new things and master new techniques, so students can always expect something new.

Hopefully students will learn new ways to think about bead construction and gain control over the glass to create new and exciting works of art. The lessons are suited for a wide variety of skill levels and everyone will walk away with something they can take to use in their own artwork.
Also one day of Beginning Soft Glass Marbles

September 24, 25 & 25th – Corina Tettinger – Class Description to follow but it will be an advanced class with quarks, complex twisties, murrine, encased beads and probably some frogs and lizards.

November 12, 13 & 14th – Josh Mazet - will be back with more boro classes. He has some great ideas and they will be forthcoming. One might be advanced pendants, more later.

Any questions check with the Craft Guild by phone at 972-490-0303, email at craftguildofdallas@yahoo.com or check the website. To sign up for classes call the Guild or go to their website for more information: www.craftguildofdallas.com
