MAPP or Propane.....for a HH?
So my newbie kit is on it's way here today and I need to get some fuel for my hothead. What should I ask for when I go down to Walmart?
Thanks!

I get mine from Home Depot - I use both the MapPro (they don't officially make the Mapp anymore - MapPro being the substitute), but they don't last terribly long. Maybe good for starting out, but you may want to get a BBQ tank and try the long HH Hose (many dealers here sell them, such as Sundance, Frantz, etc.)
When I'm gonna work on a bigger project or need fuel to run on the longer side (as the MapPro canisters tend to "chill" after about 25 minutes of flaming), I use the slightly larger "Fat Boy" canisters from Home Depot. Same price, and they definitely have more time in that chubby little can!
Good luck and have fun! You're gonna love this art!

So does Home Depot have better prices, or you just prefer to get it there?
Thanks so much for your help!

They don't generally sell MAPP at Walmart. Just HD, Lowes, etc.

If you have a safe place to store it, get a 20 lb. tank of propane for about $20 and save a boatload of money on MapPro at $10 per lb. You need the hose as De says and you can run the tank at full pressure.

Not sure if you can get the MapPro or Fat Boys at another location...I just choose Home Depot because:
a) I have a HD credit card, in MY name, with a nice fat credit line
b) When I go, I can usually find SOMETHING to get while I'm there that will keep my hubby busy for an afternoon and out of my dang hair (aka "torch time" )

I'm sure eventually I will upgrade, but for starting out I think I am more comfortable with just the little tanks, even though a big one would be better.
Thanks again for everyones help I really appreciate it!

i used the 1lb Coleman propane tanks when i was on a HH. i never found there was enough of heat difference to justify spending the extra $$ for MAPP

I actually like the Coleman propane thingies better than the MapPro I tried. The latter froze up in no time (about 20 minutes, yes, that's my observation too).
We have propane tanks anyway (we cook on tanked propane, that's normal here) and I got the hose at the same place where we buy the propane (haven't tried it yet though).
