Bead Release will not stick
I have purchased these new cone mandrels. Once I got them home, I roughed them up with some sandpaper and then proceeded to put on the bead release. Once the release dried, it peels off of the mandrel.
I cleaned the mandrels real well and then sanded them. I thought that would work, but it has not.
Any suggestions. They are just plain old stainless steel cone mandrels.
Obviously, I am doing something wrong, but what.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Give them a run in your kiln on an annealing cycle, and/or cook them a bit in your torch. Can't hurt; might help.

Are you dipping so that the release goes beyond the end of the cone on both sides? The release that goes over the edge will help it hang on to the slippery shape.

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.

Sherry's right. Either run them though an annealing cycle in your kiln or briefly heat to red hot in your torch before you coat them (obviously let them cool). A quick wipe with rubbing alcohol before coating also helps in case a fine amount of corrosion forms on the surface from moisture in the air.

I had the same problem with mine the first time. I cooked it really good in the flame and the second time I used it worked MUCH better.
