Best US choice for Reichenbach substitutes?
Ok, I am seeing amazing striking colors from Reichenbach glass. Being a total newbie ( had my hot head for a whole 3 months ) glass like that makes my simple rounds and bicones into something worth annealing! However, the price per pound, and importing is daunting....
Is there a less pricey alternative here in the states?
What other types of glass gives that amazing multicolor look?
I am specifically looking at Reichenbach multicolor dark.
Thanks!

Olympic Color Rods have Reichenbach and they are in the states. They also run sales a few times a year, so keep an eye out.

The Mandrel carries it too,and you can order it by the rod to try out colors. There are others too, so you don't have to import because they've already done that part

Oh, and at OCR's site at least, they sell by 1/4 kilo, or about 1/2 pound.
Also, watch that you don't order rods, you need lampwork cane. The rods are the really big stuff for glass blowing.

Eileen, I checked their site, and was psyched, until I had to choose an amount!! What are all those options, same price, 1/4 kilo, but FOO? FO? Wha? Guess this is where I ought to put on my big girl panties and call them next Monday, and ask questions?

Where did you see FOO? All I see is per bundle, which is 1/4 kilo, at least for the lampwork cane.

I love all their mystics. Except the orange., which just comes out opaque for me. And ocean is great. And Pink Lady. And Iris Dense Blue and Silver Brown are great silver reduction glasses, fun to play with and much cheaper than most. Their black is also my favorite out there.

I also really like multicolored dark, but personally I haven't had much luck with the iris orange or multi color. In 104, anyway.

Pink Lady is great because you can encase it...unlike some gold pinks. The clear is great too. Oh and one of my other favorites is Strawberry Red which is hard to burn/brown it. I would try a little of the purple rose in 96 too for small details... I have seen some awesome beads with it lately.

They have purple rose in 104! I didn't know that...ok, now I'm seriously tempted.

I Reichenbach glass. I had the opportunity to visit their factory in Germany 2 summers ago. Super nice people. I was expecting to see some big glass production facility, but it is actually a small family run business. They pull all their glass by hand. Was mind blowing to watch them handle those huge pulls of molten glass. You should have seen the arms on those young men!
As already mentioned OCR is great, and for the 104 colors they sell a sample bundle (1 rod of each color) if you don't really know which colors you want before buying a full 1/2 pound.
If you are looking at the 96 colors, just make sure you buy CANE and not rod

OCR is Olympic Color Rods:
http://www.glasscolor.com/
I find the Mystic Coral and Mystic Red to be nearly identical. I accidentally mixed them up and couldn't tell them apart.

If you are friends with Angie Ramey on FB, she has a wonderful photo gallery of test beads with Reichenbach 96 and Gaffer opaques. Her beads do a much better job of showing the colors than OCR's website.
I find that a lot of the transparents are too saturated for what I do.

This is Iris Dark Brown! I sometimes get purples, but often I get subtle blues, greens and beiges. I just love it.
