there's a long story behind it - suffice to say I went to someone's house to reclaim some property stolen from some lampwork vendors - and someone called me that, and I liked it, so I took it

no, it was a compliment for being the LE enforcer. It was said by someone not involved in said repo activity

An oxy hose will attach to a plastic nipple on the oxy con (or screw, I think mine screws on), then all you have to do it hook it up to the torch (I don't know what fittings you have). It's easy.

I use a short piece of hose pushed onto the barbed fitting - it has a threaded fitting (the black piece) you can hook directly to your oxy hose (the green piece - in my case I have two Yd together).

And it makes enough gas to power a torch?

Of course... We wouldn't have told you to buy one if it didn't. I run mine at 4.5 lpm. I can run it at 5lpm but my purity drops a little if I bump it up to 5 lpm. It will be fine. And you adjust it from the torch knobs just like you would if you were using tanked oxy. It took me a while to figure that out. There is a little dial on the oxycon, just leave it alone. Adjust from the torch. It's easy.

Ohhh and I went and checked... mine is a threaded fitting on the oxy connection.

Dale, I'll just ask my welding shop, they have a large clientèle of glass artists. I can cut and thread black pipe but I've never actually installed it.
Threaded black pipe will be "Tapered Pipe Thread".... Teflon tape is ok on it....

All I have to worry about now is the stinking propane. I figure if I get a non-bbq tank chances are that will make it a hell of a lot safer since it hasn't been exchanged by a gas station 5000 times AND been abused on the underside of a grill by joe-football and his horde of demonic relatives. AND it's staying outside one floor down in a locker...

safety....ahhhhh.....

(paranoid? maybe a wee bit...)

No, not paranoid. SAFE. I check to make sure my fuel is off right away when I shut down my torch, before I leave the basement, before I leave my house and before I go to bed. Even if I haven't lit my torch that day. <<<---That's paranoid.

Where is your ventilation system? Getting blown up is much less likely than getting sick from fumes if you don't get this right.

I'm doing it on a screened in balcony, tho I'll prolly use a high pressure paint booth fan with heavy dryer venting come winter when the windows are shut

Ok...so with my array of stuff that came with the torch, there are two 'copper-clad' graphite mandrel lookin' things. About the thickness of a finger. The ends really aren't smooth enough for shaping....can I dip these in sludge and use them as mandrels?

I would set that up now if i were you. A screened in porch with no ventilation system is probably not safe

Copper is an awesome conductor of heat and as a result, will not work as mandrels. Burn baby burn
