Jackpot
I'm a sucker for glass recommended by Brent. When he talked about GAs new Jackpot I bought a pound. Now what the hello do I do with it. It's nice and sparkily but so far appears to be much like several other sparkly colors.
Any suggestions?? Marble apps???

It makes pretty twisties. A little goes a long way.

Yes it does. And you can say that again!
It seems to me, and I've only had a little bit, that it's not just green looking like many of the other sparkles. Depending on what you layer it with, it can look gold (with AP's and such) or silver (with greens and blues). I think it's fantastic, just haven't had a chance to get more yet.

I was gifted one rod and have only played a little.
My impression .... very, very, very dense. Like I'm spreading it over lots of clear next time and pulling it down first!!

Thanks for the info. That's about what I recall Brent saying about it. Now if I could just get the time to play with it.

How well does it work encased? If it likes to be encased a spiral marble might be nice. I know that TAG’s Mighty Moss often checks when encased.

I made encased donut beads and didn't notice any checking ... yet.
Brent shows it in spiral vortex marbles and pendants ... so I'm betting it is pretty safe for deep encasement.
Certain manufacture dates of TAGs Mighty Moss are safer to deep encase than others. Hit Jenny up at TAG if you want to verify what you have is or isn't the lot that can be heavy encased.
When heavy encased they still suggest not garaging long (aka make it at the end of your session). DFO Moss and some of the other sparkles are not very friendly deep encased regardless of garage time.

First outting
Here's my simple twistie beads with Jackpot from my first outting. Beautiful sunny morning ... so lots of bright light in the house for photography.
It's NS Blue Moon, Jackpot and either Lt BAP or Lt Cobalt (can't remember), swiped on a clear rod and twisted up. Next time I'm thinning the Jackpot way down ... it is killer dense.

Brent Grabber, AKA Mr. Smiley. When he lived on the East Coast he was a regular, now that he lives in the Pacific North West, he doesn't come here as often.

I'm finding that, with the possible exception of Red Elvis, most boro color goes much further than 104 color. I'd love to have some Jackpot, but I don't want to purchase an entire pound of it.

Same here ... I was inpatiently waiting to be released by GA and then someone gifted my a single rod when I posted to buy a rod in the GS.
As dense as it is ... I can't imagine using a full pound of it in any reasonable amount of time. Thought just hoarding the sparkles is tempting.
Any interest in spliting a pound. I'd be more than willing to go halfsies or quarteries with anyone.

I got a pound of Jackpot from Mountain Glass Art and they shipped it really fast, I had it in just a few days! Worked with it alittle yesterday, and it is absolutely the most sparkle I have ever used, and I have all the glitter glass. Lots of possibilities with this glass, and a pound will last me a very long time. Love it!

it is a very dense color, my favorite use for it is imploding. As the color moves through the clear it loses it's green tint. It's good for making multi layer stringer for flowers and good for blowing in to thin shards and layering it on a twisty. Here is a simple little video to a pendant I made right before the kiln. This technique I blew out a coil-potted bubble and made shards

I have about 9-10 assorted rods that I play with every now and then
Due to my patience disorder (ie: I'm too impatient for melting boro)I don't play with boro too often

You don't need more patience, just a bigger flame...

It's strange!
When I watch my bead making friends they take just as long to make a soft glass bead as I would take to do the same bead in boro. I work more in the flame to do it and they work more in the flame edges so I think the difference is just the amount of heat one uses at the time.

If you were to measure the viscosity of each glass while being worked, I'd be willing to bet that they would be close to the same.

I am looking forward to trying this out. My GA order will be in next week with this and a striking color GA6585 (andromeda) they do not even have on their website yet. It is a new amber/purple with sparkles. Will be on our website this weekend.

If you mean between soft and boro its not even close. boro never gets as soft as 96 or 104.

True boro never gets as fluid, but there is a region (differing temps for 33 and 104) where the viscosity would over lap, no? Both are solid at room temperature and both are molten at 2300 degrees, 104 more so than 33.

Yes, but there is a huge difference in the amount of energy needed to reach that point. Also the viscosities are so different that the techniques used to do things are different. It makes no sense to try to make an analogy.

We just got our GA order in so we haven't played with it much, but if it is like the new GA Andromeda we found it flame struck with one color personality which was nice but then we kiln struck it and WOW it looks completely different. Maybe Jackpot is the same?
