I do thumb tacks and have a 3/32 mandrel with 1/8 cut into 5 shorts and wired onto the end where the pin of my thumb tack slides into the middle of the 1/8" shorts and holds VERY well. I actually have to take tweesers to pull out of the middle to release it.

I had similar problems with making headpins. So I called Arrow Springs and had them invent a tool that I think works pretty well. They call it a broach clip- basically an alligator clip attached to a hollow tube. Kind of hard to find on their site, but it's on the home page.

How did your friend like her divider pins?

Oh she loved them. Makes me happy especially knowing how difficult it was to make them, they were the last thing I did in my studio before packing it up to put into the storage. I remember fishing them from the floor few times when they just broke loose from my vise... yousa... that was lots of hopping and screaming and chanting: please don't break, please don't break...
