Default Has anyone used the BE Dark Aurora yet? I want to see pics!

I have only seen one bead posted with the Bullseye Dark Aurora. Does anyone else have pics they can share? Mine is getting here today and I am going to try and play with it tonight, but I would LOVE to see someone else's beads!

I made some beads with it Saturday & its super fun. it did the blue/green/violet thing when encased, easily. they were in the kiln yesterday & i'm hoping to go get them tonight. i'm very curious about what they'll look like post-annealling, since the description bullseye gave of the glass mentioned that it darkens during annealling. it also goes metalic when reduced. i tried it on white, peach, gold purple & black and liked it on black best.

I got mine from Kalera today! Woohoo! Unfortunately, I think I have to wait until Friday to play with it.

I got mine today and melted and squished one end and <swoon> OMG it is gorgeous. Just on that one little end, it had an incredible range of blues.

after annealing i got purples, mauves, magenta & a bit of blue. i'll try to post a pic before work tomorrow if there's enough light to make it worth while. very cool! reducing produces a sweet metalic blue.

I made some beads yesterday. I was so excited seeing them go in the kiln because they looked like gorgeous greens and blues. They came out burgundy, lol. But very cool anyway. I need to explore more because I got major reactions from quick cooling in a brass press. Not as pretty as I had hoped. Overall I love this glass. I think you can do almost nothing and still get a reaction.

Mine all came out black! Except for one that I put some clear stringer on - under the stronger, it had pretty blues. I need to encase the whole thing I guess. I did pull some encased stringer, but they turned black too - even after being blue in the stringer form.

I did get a pretty metallic on one that I reduced.

i got a nice effect by making a base bead of pretty much any color, wrapping with aurora, rolling in clear frit, then encasing. the extra encasing where the frit is left some blue spots on the annealled bead. seems like it really needs to be encased for colorful goodness.

Kalera - what kind of flame are you using? neutral? reducing? Also, what kind of torch do you use?

Those beads are incredible!

edited to ask - how long are you annealing? my beads had pretty colors going into the kiln and then all darkened in the kiln....

Those were all made in a neutral flame that may have verged on slightly reducing... I noticed that if you don't encase, the colors only come out if you strike in a reducing flame, but if you do encase, you really don't have to do much to it. I use a Barracuda, Breezy uses a Midrange.

My annealing schedule is to hold at 968 while I'm working, then for 20 minutes after I stop. Then I sloooowly (over an hour I think) ramp down to 850, pause for 15 minutes, ramp down to 750, pause for 15 minutes (I only do this because I work with different COEs of soft glass and some of them have different strain points) then ramp to 350 and shut off. The kiln cools slowly enough after that on its own.

I just need to resign myself to encasing I guess. I was hoping encased stringers would work, but had no luck with them. I will be encasing tonight.

Thanks for posting your pics - and your tips. I really appreciate it!

Those are so gorgeous, Kalera!

I so want to go play with mine - but I don't dare turn my kiln on. We are under blizzard conditions here and I don't want to run my kiln. Oh, well maybe next week after Christmas is over

Those are gorgeous, Kalera! I love the earthy colors Breezy got out of it too! I have eight rods sitting here waiting to be something other than fondled, but I have too much stuff to do around the house. No torch time for me yet...

I made some beads last night and encased them - and they are beautiful. The glass isn;t very picky about how it is worked either, which is nice.
